Terms & Conditions

The short version
Use the site, read it, subscribe, enjoy it. Don't steal the content, don't try to break the site, and understand that it's offered as-is by one person, not a corporation with a legal department. The rest is the fine print that makes that stick.
Who you're agreeing with
This site, Subverting Expectations, is operated by Erik C. Olson ("I," "me," or "the site owner"). By using the site, you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree with them, that's a fair reason not to use it.
Using the site
You're welcome to browse, read, listen, and share links freely. In return, you agree not to:
- use the site for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass, or impersonate anyone;
- try to break, overload, probe, or gain unauthorized access to the site or its systems;
- scrape or harvest content in a way that burdens the site or ignores the intellectual-property terms below.
The content is mine
Unless something says otherwise, the writing, audio, artwork, and design on this site belong to me or are used with permission, and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may share links and quote short excerpts with attribution—that's the whole point of publishing. You may not republish whole pages or episodes, sell the content, or pass it off as your own without permission. Ask me; I'm reasonable.
"Subverting Expectations," the show name, and its logos are marks of the show. Please don't use them in a way that suggests I endorse or am affiliated with something I'm not.
The newsletter
Subscribing to The Measure is free, and you can leave at any time using the unsubscribe link in any issue. How your subscription data is handled is covered in the Privacy Policy. I may retire, pause, or change the newsletter's format; if I do, I won't hold your address hostage.
If you come on as a guest
Being a guest on the show is governed by a separate guest agreement, handled directly with you before we record. Where that agreement and these general terms overlap, the guest agreement controls for anything about your participation.
Links to other places
The site links out to other websites and platforms—where to listen, sources, and the like. I don't control those, and I'm not responsible for their content or their practices. A link isn't an endorsement of everything on the far end of it.
No warranties
The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. I try to keep things accurate and online, but I don't promise the site will always be available, error-free, or that the content is complete or suited to any particular purpose. Nothing here is professional, legal, financial, or medical advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, I won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of—or inability to use—the site. It's a podcast site run by one person; please use it with that in mind.
Changes to the site and to these terms
I may update, add to, or remove parts of the site at any time, and I may revise these terms. When I do, I'll update the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Clark County, Nevada.
