Privacy Policy

The short version

I collect as little about you as I can get away with, and I don't sell it. If you subscribe to the newsletter, I keep your email so I can send you the newsletter. If you email me, I keep the email so I can reply. That's most of it. The longer version is below, because the short version isn't a contract.

What I collect, and when

  • When you subscribe to The Measure. The signup form asks for your name and email address. That's what I use to send you the newsletter.
  • When you email me. I get whatever you put in the message: your email address, your name if you sign it, and whatever you decided to tell me.
  • Automatically, when you visit. Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site records basic technical information in its logs—things like your IP address, browser type, and the pages you requested. This is standard server housekeeping, used to keep the site running and secure.

I do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics profiling on this site. If that ever changes, this page changes first.

How I use it

  • To send you the newsletter you asked for, and nothing you didn't.
  • To reply to you when you get in touch.
  • To keep the site working, secure, and reasonably free of abuse.

I don't sell your personal information, and I don't rent it out for someone else to market to you.

The services this site relies on

Running a site means trusting a few outside companies with the plumbing. Here's who touches your data and why:

  • Email & newsletter platform. The Measure signup and mailing list are handled through DataSphere Solutions, an email and CRM platform built on GoHighLevel. Your name and email are stored there so the newsletter can be sent, and GoHighLevel handles the underlying email-delivery and compliance (unsubscribe handling, sending reputation, and the like). When you load a page with the signup form, that form is embedded from the platform's servers, which may set cookies of their own.
  • Web fonts. This site loads typefaces from Google Fonts. To serve them, Google receives the request—including your IP address—for the font files. It does not tie that to your newsletter subscription.
  • Hosting. The site is served by a web host that keeps the standard server logs described above.

Each of these companies has its own privacy practices, which govern what they do on their end.

Cookies

This site doesn't set marketing or tracking cookies of its own. The embedded newsletter form and the font service may set cookies necessary for them to function. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though the signup form may behave differently.

How long I keep it

I keep your newsletter subscription until you unsubscribe, after which your address is removed from the active list. I keep emails you send for as long as I have a reason to—usually to maintain the thread of a conversation—and clear them out when I don't. Server logs rotate on the host's normal schedule.

Your choices and your rights

  • Unsubscribe anytime. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. One click and you're out; no hard feelings, and—as the newsletter itself says—the door swings both ways.
  • See, correct, or delete your data. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what I hold about you, to fix it, or to have it deleted. Email me and I'll do it. I won't charge you or make you jump through hoops.
  • No sale to opt out of. I don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of on that front.

Children

This site isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent me their information, email me and I'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If I change how any of this works, I'll update this page and move the "last updated" date at the top. For anything significant, I'll try to give subscribers a heads-up in the newsletter.
